Jaron - A brief history
The group originated from the hospital chaplaincy department in the 1990s, where compassionate chaplains recognized the need for emotional and spiritual support beyond traditional religious care. They began providing informal counselling services to patients, families, and staff affected by traumatic experiences. As the demand for these services grew, the chaplaincy department
collaborated with health professionals to develop a more formalized
counselling program. In the early 2000s, the hospital administration
acknowledged the program's value and provided dedicated funding to
establish a trauma counselling service.
In 2010's, the service evolved into a professional trauma counselling group, staffed by trained therapists, counsellors, and social workers. This expansion enabled the team to offer crisis intervention, staff support, and specialized services for patients and the hospital staff. Throughout the 2010s, the trauma counselling group continued to integrate with various hospital departments, fostering strong relationships with emergency care, surgery, intensive care, Psychology and Social Work teams. This collaboration ensured seamless referrals, joint care
planning, and comprehensive support for patients and families.
Today, Jaron is a renowned service within the hospital, providing expert care to hundreds of individuals annually. Our team remains committed to delivering compassionate, trauma-informed, and evidence-based support, upholding the values of empathy, collaboration, and excellence that guided our humble beginnings in chaplaincy.
